How to Hire a PA Announcer for a Dallas-Fort Worth High School

Hiring a PA announcer for a high school athletic event should be straightforward, but there are a few things worth considering before you put someone behind the microphone.

Whether you are planning a Friday night football game, basketball game, baseball or softball game, soccer match, volleyball tournament or lacrosse event, the right announcer can make the presentation feel organized and professional.

Start With the Type of Event

Identify the sport, venue, expected crowd, start time and whether you need only PA announcing or additional services such as music, emcee work or play-by-play.

Ask About Preparation

Ask a potential announcer how they prepare. A professional should want the roster, player numbers, starters, coaches’ names, pronunciation information and event details ahead of time. Preparation is especially important for high school sports because getting a student-athlete’s name right matters.

Make Sure the Announcer Understands Your Sport

Football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball and lacrosse all have different rhythms. The announcer should know when information needs to be delivered immediately and when it is better to let the game speak for itself.

Ask What Equipment Is Included

Find out whether the venue provides the microphone and sound system and whether the announcer brings additional equipment. It is also worth discussing walk-up music, timeout music or other game-day entertainment if those are part of the plan.

Look for Reliability and Communication

A PA announcer is part of the event staff. You want someone who answers questions, confirms the details, shows up prepared and understands that schedules can change. That matters just as much as having a good voice.
